
About us
The United Nations Association of Bulgaria is an organization that has been working for the public good for decades. It was founded in 1948 to support Bulgaria's membership in the United Nations, which became a reality in 1955.
The Association is a member of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) along with over 100 other national associations. Members of the Association include active citizens, career diplomats, university professors, and students.
Through its activities, the United Nations Association of Bulgaria promotes and implements the ideas, principles, and decisions of the United Nations. Some of the organization's key areas of work include human rights education, raising awareness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and organizing discussions and publications on global issues.


The Youth Section of the United Nations Association of Bulgaria was established in 2004 on the recommendation of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA). It is now the most active and visible part of our work. It consists of young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who are motivated to create positive change in their surroundings.
The United Nations Association of Bulgaria is a member of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) along with over 160 other national associations. WFUNA was established on August 2, 1946, in Luxembourg. The Federation and its members are the only non-governmental organizations with the right to use the UN logo and have the primary task of supporting the principles and goals of the United Nations.

The General Assembly of the United Nations Association of Bulgaria
The supreme governing body of the Association is the General Assembly, and its managing body is the Board of Directors. On April 27, 2021, during the General Assembly of UNA of Bulgaria, a new president of the Association was elected: the career diplomat Ambassador Vladimir Sotirov. He replaces the former president of the Association, the dean of Bulgarian diplomacy, Ambassador Ivan Garvalov.

The National Youth Forum is the largest formal platform of youth organizations in Bulgaria, uniting nearly 40 youth organizations. Its mission is to empower young people and develop youth policies aligned with the needs of youth. As a member organization of the National Youth Forum, UNA of Bulgaria actively participates through representation on the Governing Board, joint projects, and a team of trainers.

The Bulgarian Platform for International Development (BPID) brings together a network of 16 non-governmental organizations working in the fields of healthcare, education for development, equality, environment, sustainability, and others. UNA of Bulgaria is among the founding organizations of BPID and actively participates in its activities.

In 2018, UNA of Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) signed a 4-year cooperation agreement on the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well as promoting sports as a means of diplomacy for achieving peace and understanding between nations. The Partnership promotes the fulfillment of Goals 3 "Good Health," 16 "Peace and Justice," and 17 "Partnerships for Sustainable Development" of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Bulgarian Network of the United Nations Global Compact is a platform for dialogue between business associations, non-governmental organizations, and trade unions to promote corporate social responsibility and ethical business standards.
